Ingredients

  • 1 large pie crust
  • 6 cups sliced apples
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Roll out the pie crust and fit it into a large baking sheet.
  3. In a bowl, toss the sliced apples with sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch.
  4. Pour the apple mixture over the pie crust in the baking sheet.
  5. Dot with pieces of butter.
  6. Roll out another pie crust to cover the top; crimp the edges to seal.
  7. Beat the egg with milk and brush over the top crust.
  8. Cut slits in the top for steam to escape.
  9. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Let cool before slicing and serving.

Notes

Choose a mix of sweet and tart apples for a more complex flavor. Allow pie to cool for easier slicing.
