Ingredients

  • 7 oz. (200g) cake flour (or all-purpose flour)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 sticks (225g) unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 7 oz. (200g) sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 tablespoons plain yogurt (preferred or whole milk)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease the baking pan with butter.
  2. Mix the flour and baking powder in a bowl and sift them together. Add salt and mix well. Set this mixture aside.
  3. Beat the butter and sugar on medium speed until combined and pale yellow, about 3 minutes.
  4. Add the first egg and beat well, continuing with each egg, scraping down the sides as you go. Mix in the vanilla extract.
  5. Fold in the flour mixture gently until just combined. Add the plain yogurt or whole milk and mix until smooth.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, shaking lightly to distribute it evenly.
  7. Bake for 40–50 minutes until golden brown and cooked through, covering with aluminum foil if the top starts to brown too quickly.
  8. Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes. Cut into pieces and serve warm.

Notes

Use room temperature ingredients for better emulsion and avoid overmixing to prevent a dense cake. Customize by adding zest or extracts for flavor.
