Description

Comforting cabbage rolls filled with savory meats and rice, baked in rich tomato sauce.


Ingredients

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 lb Italian sausage
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove leaves from the cabbage and blanch them in boiling water for about 2 minutes until tender. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, cook the Italian sausage and ground beef over medium heat until browned. Add the onion and garlic, and cook until softened.
  4. Stir in the cooked rice, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning until combined.
  5. Take a cabbage leaf, place a spoonful of the meat mixture at the base, and roll tightly, tucking in the sides.
  6. Repeat with remaining leaves and filling.
  7. In a baking dish, spread a layer of tomato sauce, then arrange the cabbage rolls seam side down. Top with remaining tomato sauce.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
  9. Serve warm.

Notes

Consider using leftover cooked rice or adding cheese to the filling for extra creaminess. Let the rolls rest for a few minutes after baking to enhance flavor.
