Description
Comforting cabbage rolls filled with savory meats and rice, baked in rich tomato sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large head of cabbage
- 1 lb Italian sausage
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove leaves from the cabbage and blanch them in boiling water for about 2 minutes until tender. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, cook the Italian sausage and ground beef over medium heat until browned. Add the onion and garlic, and cook until softened.
- Stir in the cooked rice, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning until combined.
- Take a cabbage leaf, place a spoonful of the meat mixture at the base, and roll tightly, tucking in the sides.
- Repeat with remaining leaves and filling.
- In a baking dish, spread a layer of tomato sauce, then arrange the cabbage rolls seam side down. Top with remaining tomato sauce.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
- Serve warm.
Notes
Consider using leftover cooked rice or adding cheese to the filling for extra creaminess. Let the rolls rest for a few minutes after baking to enhance flavor.
