Description
A delightful chicken cabbage stir-fry combining tender chicken and colorful veggies in a savory sauce, perfect for busy weeknights or special occasions.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 pound chicken breast, diced
- 2 cups cabbage, chopped
- 1 bell pepper, sliced (any color)
- 1 carrot, julienned
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional)
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (optional, for thickening)
- Green onions for garnish
Instructions
- Marinate the chicken: In a small bowl, combine 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 teaspoon of sesame oil, and a pinch of black pepper. Toss the diced chicken breast in the marinade and let it sit for 10–15 minutes.
- Prepare the sauce: In another bowl, whisk together the remaining 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce (if using), 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (if desired), and the cornstarch slurry (1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water). Set aside.
- Cook the chicken: Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Melt the butter and add the marinated chicken, stirring for about 4–5 minutes until golden brown and fully cooked. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- Sauté the aromatics: In the same skillet, add a bit more butter if needed and sauté the sliced onion and minced garlic until fragrant, about 2 minutes.
- Cook the vegetables: Add chopped cabbage, sliced bell pepper, and julienned carrot. Stir-fry for 5–6 minutes until tender but still crisp.
- Combine and add the sauce: Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and pour in the prepared sauce, stirring well. Cook for an additional 2–3 minutes to thicken the sauce and blend the flavors.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
For added flavor, customize the seasoning with more soy sauce or spice it up! Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days.
