Description

A crispy and flavorful blooming onion, made effortlessly in an air fryer for a delicious appetizer experience.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Prepare the onion by cutting off the top and removing the outer skin. Slice the onion from the top into petals but do not cut all the way through.
  2. In a bowl, mix the flour, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, and salt.
  3. Dip the onion into the buttermilk, coating it thoroughly.
  4. Dredge the onion in the flour mixture, ensuring even coverage.
  5. After coating, place the onion in the buttermilk again and then into the breadcrumbs for a crispy outer layer.
  6. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  7. Place the onion in the air fryer basket and spray lightly with cooking spray.
  8. Cook for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  9. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Choose a firm, fresh onion for best results. Make sure to spray the onion generously with cooking spray to achieve an extra crispy texture.
