Description

A hearty comfort meal featuring tender beef tips simmered in a rich gravy with caramelized onions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs (680g) beef stew tips (or tender beef chunks)
  • 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) French onion soup
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper (or to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (to thicken gravy)
  • 1 tablespoon water (for cornstarch slurry)

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the thinly sliced onions and sauté them, stirring occasionally, for about 15-20 minutes until they become soft, golden, and caramelized.
  3. In the same skillet, add the beef tips and season with salt and pepper. Cook for approximately 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned on all sides.
  4. Pour in the French onion soup and beef broth, then add the Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir everything together and bring it to a gentle simmer.
  5. Let it cook for 20-25 minutes, allowing the beef to become tender and the flavors to meld harmoniously.
  6. To thicken the gravy, mix the cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water to create a slurry. Gradually add this to the skillet while stirring constantly. Allow it to cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the gravy reaches your desired thickness.

Notes

Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles, and garnish with fresh herbs for added freshness.
