Description
A hearty comfort meal featuring tender beef tips simmered in a rich gravy with caramelized onions.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1.5 lbs (680g) beef stew tips (or tender beef chunks)
- 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 1 can (10.5 oz) French onion soup
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper (or to taste)
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch (to thicken gravy)
- 1 tablespoon water (for cornstarch slurry)
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the thinly sliced onions and sauté them, stirring occasionally, for about 15-20 minutes until they become soft, golden, and caramelized.
- In the same skillet, add the beef tips and season with salt and pepper. Cook for approximately 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned on all sides.
- Pour in the French onion soup and beef broth, then add the Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir everything together and bring it to a gentle simmer.
- Let it cook for 20-25 minutes, allowing the beef to become tender and the flavors to meld harmoniously.
- To thicken the gravy, mix the cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water to create a slurry. Gradually add this to the skillet while stirring constantly. Allow it to cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the gravy reaches your desired thickness.
Notes
Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles, and garnish with fresh herbs for added freshness.
