Description
These Easy Turtle Bars combine a flaky crust with layers of gooey caramel, melted chocolate, and crunchy pecans for a delicious treat that brings sweet nostalgia.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1 cup pecan halves
- 2/3 cup butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 cup milk chocolate chips
- Extra chopped pecans (for garnish)
- Sea salt flakes (for garnish)
- Drizzled caramel sauce (for serving)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a 9×13 inch baking pan by lining it with parchment paper, letting the paper hang over the edges.
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine flour and brown sugar. Cut in the cold, cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan to form the crust.
- Evenly sprinkle pecan halves over the crust.
- In a small saucepan, combine butter and brown sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture begins to bubble.
- Continue cooking for one minute after the mixture boils, then carefully pour it over the pecans and crust.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
- After removing from the oven, sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot bars and let sit to soften, then spread melted chocolate evenly.
Notes
Adding a pinch of sea salt flakes on top before serving enhances the flavor of the chocolate and caramel. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature.
