Description

These Easy Turtle Bars combine a flaky crust with layers of gooey caramel, melted chocolate, and crunchy pecans for a delicious treat that brings sweet nostalgia.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup pecan halves
  • 2/3 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips
  • Extra chopped pecans (for garnish)
  • Sea salt flakes (for garnish)
  • Drizzled caramel sauce (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a 9×13 inch baking pan by lining it with parchment paper, letting the paper hang over the edges.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine flour and brown sugar. Cut in the cold, cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan to form the crust.
  4. Evenly sprinkle pecan halves over the crust.
  5. In a small saucepan, combine butter and brown sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture begins to bubble.
  6. Continue cooking for one minute after the mixture boils, then carefully pour it over the pecans and crust.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
  8. After removing from the oven, sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot bars and let sit to soften, then spread melted chocolate evenly.

Notes

Adding a pinch of sea salt flakes on top before serving enhances the flavor of the chocolate and caramel. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature.
