Ingredients

  • – 1/2 a loaf of French bread (about 225g) cut into cubes
  • – 1/2 cup (120 ml) beef butter
  • – 1 cup (240 ml) packed brown sugar
  • – 6 eggs
  • – 2 cups (480 ml) milk
  • – 2 teaspoons (10 ml) vanilla extract
  • – 2 teaspoons (10 ml) cinnamon, divided
  • – 1 tablespoon (15 ml) brown sugar, for topping
  • – Powdered sugar for topping, optional

Instructions

  1. Set your oven to 425 degrees to warm up. Grease a 13×9 inch baking dish and put it aside.
  2. In a small pot, heat the beef butter on medium until it melts. Mix in the brown sugar until it dissolves and the blend is smooth. Pour this blend into the bottom of the baking dish and spread it out evenly.
  3. Scatter the bread cubes over the sugar and butter mixture in the dish.
  4. In a medium bowl, beat together the eggs, milk, vanilla, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Pour this egg mixture over the bread cubes, making sure all the bread is soaked. Dust with the remaining teaspoon of cinnamon and sprinkle with a tablespoon of brown sugar.
  5. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes until the top turns golden brown. Once done, take it out and, if you like, dust with powdered sugar. Enjoy!
