Ingredients
Scale
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Food coloring (preferably natural) in red or pink
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate large bowl, cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
- Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients.
- Divide the dough into two parts.
- Add food coloring to one part to create the colored dough.
- Roll each portion into a log and wrap in plastic wrap. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Slice the chilled logs into 1/4-inch thick rounds and place them on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden. Allow to cool before serving.
Notes
Chilling the dough helps retain cookie shape during baking. For a marbled effect, mix both colors before slicing.
