Description

Delightful heart-shaped cookies that are colorful, easy to make, and perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Food coloring (preferably natural) in red or pink

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  2. In a separate large bowl, cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  3. Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients.
  5. Divide the dough into two parts.
  6. Add food coloring to one part to create the colored dough.
  7. Roll each portion into a log and wrap in plastic wrap. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Slice the chilled logs into 1/4-inch thick rounds and place them on a baking sheet.
  10. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden. Allow to cool before serving.

Notes

Chilling the dough helps retain cookie shape during baking. For a marbled effect, mix both colors before slicing.
