Ingredients
Scale
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) vegetable oil, divided
- 2 cups (300 g) broccoli
- 1 pound (450 g) boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1 inch (2.5 cm) pieces
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) soy sauce
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) water
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) honey
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) sesame oil
- 2 teaspoons (10 ml) cornstarch
- salt and pepper to taste
- sesame seeds for garnish, if desired
Instructions
- Warm up 1 tablespoon of oil in a large frying pan. Toss in the broccoli and cook until it’s tender and has a nice caramelized color, about 4-5 minutes. Take it out of the pan and set it aside.
- Pour the other tablespoon of oil into the same pan. To make sure the chicken gets a crispy, caramelized exterior, I cook it in two rounds. Add the garlic and let it cook for another minute.
- In the meantime, in a small bowl, stir together the soy sauce, water, honey, and sesame oil.
- Pour the sauce into the pan and add the broccoli as well. In a separate small bowl, blend the cornstarch with a tablespoon of cold water. Gradually whisk this mixture into the sauce. Let it simmer until the sauce thickens, about 1-2 minutes.
- Add salt and pepper to your liking and serve right away, sprinkling sesame seeds on top if you wish.
Notes
- Consider using olive oil instead of vegetable oil for a healthier twist.
- Add a splash of rice vinegar to the sauce for a tangy flavor boost.
- Experiment with adding bell peppers or snap peas for extra texture and color.
