A classic patty melt featuring juicy ground venison paired with caramelized onions and melted cheese, all pressed between crispy bread.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground venison
- 4 slices of bread (rye or sourdough)
- 4 slices of cheese (Swiss or cheddar)
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: mustard or ketchup for serving
Instructions
- Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and sauté until caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Set aside.
- Combine the ground venison with salt and pepper in a bowl. Form into patties.
- Add the patties to the same skillet and cook over medium heat for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until cooked to your desired doneness.
- Place a slice of cheese on each patty to melt towards the end.
- Melt the remaining butter in another skillet and toast the bread slices until golden brown.
- Assemble by placing a venison patty with melted cheese on a slice of toasted bread, topping with caramelized onions, and adding any desired condiments.
- Top with another slice of bread, cut in half, and serve warm.
Notes
For added flavor, consider spices or herbs like garlic powder or thyme in the venison mix. Adjust cooking times for personal preference.
