Ingredients
- – 1 pound (454 g) lean ground beef (90% lean)
- – 3 garlic cloves, minced
- – 1/4 cup (60 ml) packed brown sugar
- – 1/4 cup (60 ml) reduced-sodium soy sauce
- – 2 teaspoons (10 ml) sesame oil
- – 1/4 teaspoon (1.25 ml) ground ginger
- – 1/4 teaspoon (1.25 ml) crushed red pepper flakes
- – 1/4 teaspoon (1.25 ml) pepper
- – 2 cups (380 g) hot cooked white or brown rice
- – sliced green onions and sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- In a large frying pan, cook the beef and garlic on medium heat, breaking it up, until the pink color is gone. Remove any excess fat.
- In a separate bowl, combine the brown sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, red pepper flakes, and pepper. Drizzle this mixture over the beef and let it cook gently for a minute or two.
- Place the beef mixture on top of hot rice and finish with a sprinkle of green onions and sesame seeds.
Notes
- For a healthier option, try using ground turkey or chicken instead of ground beef.
- Feel free to incorporate extra vegetables like bell peppers or broccoli for added nutrition and flavor.
- Adjust the red pepper flakes to your preferred level of spiciness.
