Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 sticks margarine
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 stick margarine (additional for frosting)
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter (additional for frosting)
  • 6 Tbs buttermilk (additional for frosting)
  • 1 tsp vanilla (additional for frosting)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. Grease your sheet cake pan or two 9×13 pans.
  3. Mix together flour, sugar, salt, and baking soda in a bowl.
  4. Combine the peanut butter, water, and margarine in a saucepan.
  5. Bring to a rapid boil, then pour over the flour mixture.
  6. Mix thoroughly, then add in the eggs and buttermilk.
  7. Pour the batter into the greased pan.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. For frosting, bring the margarine, peanut butter, and buttermilk to a rapid boil in another saucepan.
  10. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and powdered sugar.
  11. Pour the warm frosting over the cake.
  12. Allow the cake to cool completely before cutting into bars for serving.

Notes

For a chunkier texture, consider using crunchy peanut butter in the frosting. Pair with ice cream or whipped cream for an extra treat.
