Description

A perfectly roasted turkey, the centerpiece of holiday feasts, capturing flavors of fresh herbs and spices.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 whole turkey (1012 pounds)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Herbs (like rosemary, thyme, and sage)
  • 4 cups turkey or chicken broth
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 2 carrots, cut into chunks
  • 2 celery stalks, cut into chunks

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Remove the giblets from the turkey and pat it dry with paper towels.
  3. Rub olive oil generously all over the turkey, then season it with salt and pepper.
  4. Stuff the turkey’s cavity with fresh herbs, quartered onions, chopped carrots, and celery chunks.
  5. Place the turkey in a roasting pan, pouring four cups of turkey or chicken broth around the base.
  6. Roast the turkey for approximately 2 to 3 hours, basting every 30 minutes with the broth, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  7. Allow the turkey to rest for at least 20 minutes before carving.

Notes

Start with the turkey at room temperature for even cooking. Use a meat thermometer to check the doneness without touching the bone.
