- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 4 cups milk
- 4 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 2 tablespoons melted butter (for topping)
Instructions
- Cook elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente, then drain and set aside.
- In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat, then whisk in flour and cook until bubbly.
- Gradually add the milk while whisking constantly, and cook until thickened (about 5 minutes).
- Stir in shred sharp cheddar and Parmesan until melted and combined.
- Season the sauce with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Fold the cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce until coated.
- Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish and spread evenly.
- In a bowl, mix breadcrumbs with melted butter and sprinkle over the macaroni.
- Bake in the preheated oven at 350°F for 25-30 minutes, until bubbly and golden.
- Let cool slightly before serving hot.
