Ingredients

  • 16 ounces elbow macaroni
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups milk
  • 4 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Cook elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente, then drain and set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat, then whisk in flour and cook until bubbly.
  3. Gradually add the milk while whisking constantly, and cook until thickened (about 5 minutes).
  4. Stir in shred sharp cheddar and Parmesan until melted and combined.
  5. Season the sauce with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  6. Fold the cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce until coated.
  7. Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish and spread evenly.
  8. In a bowl, mix breadcrumbs with melted butter and sprinkle over the macaroni.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven at 350°F for 25-30 minutes, until bubbly and golden.
  10. Let cool slightly before serving hot.
