Description

A rich and hearty casserole of tender venison, creamy stroganoff sauce, and egg noodles, baked with a golden cheese topping — perfect comfort food for any occasion.


Ingredients

For the Venison:

1.5 lbs venison (cubed)

2 tbsp olive oil

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp paprika

For the Sauce:

1 medium onion (chopped)

3 cloves garlic (minced)

1 cup beef broth

1 cup sour cream

1/2 cup heavy cream

2 tbsp Dijon mustard

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp thyme

1 tsp parsley

2 tbsp all-purpose flour

For the Egg Noodles:

8 oz egg noodles

1 tbsp salt (for water)

For Topping:

1/2 cup grated cheddar or parmesan

Fresh parsley (for garnish)


Instructions

1. Pat venison cubes dry and season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.

2. Heat olive oil in a skillet, sear venison until browned, 5–7 mins. Set aside.

3. Cook egg noodles according to package directions, drain, and set aside.

4. In same skillet, sauté onions 2–3 mins. Add garlic, cook 1 min.

5. Sprinkle flour over onions/garlic. Stir 1–2 mins to make roux.

6. Gradually whisk in beef broth. Stir in sour cream, heavy cream, mustard, Worcestershire, thyme, parsley.

7. Simmer 5 mins until thickened.

8. Return venison to sauce, simmer 10 mins. Adjust seasoning.

9. Preheat oven to 375°F.

10. Layer noodles in casserole dish. Top with venison and sauce. Sprinkle cheese over top.

11. Cover with foil and bake 20–25 mins. Remove foil, bake 5–10 mins until cheese is bubbly.

12. Cool slightly. Garnish with fresh parsley. Serve warm.

Notes

For extra flavor, marinate venison in buttermilk or herbs.

Use Gruyère for a richer cheese topping.

Freeze unbaked casserole up to 3 months.

Substitute mushrooms for a vegetarian version.
