- 1 21oz can of apple pie filling or 4 medium fresh apples (peeled, cored, and chopped or sliced)
- 1 package refrigerated cinnamon rolls with frosting
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 3 tablespoons water
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (+1 teaspoon)
- 2 tablespoons water
Instructions
- In a saucepan, combine the chopped apples, 3 tablespoons of water, 1/3 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1 tablespoon cornstarch. Cook over medium heat until apples soften, about 5–7 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- If using canned apple pie filling, skip to step 4.
- Prepare a pie dish by greasing it lightly with butter.
- Pour the prepared apple filling into the pie dish.
- Open your package of refrigerated cinnamon rolls and cut each roll into quarters. Evenly distribute these pieces over the top of the apple filling.
- Drizzle any remaining frosting over the cinnamon roll pieces to create an added layer of sweetness.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 25–30 minutes, or until the cinnamon rolls are golden brown and the apple filling is bubbly.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy this comforting and whimsical dessert!
Notes
For a more dynamic taste, mix sweet and tart apple varieties. Use vanilla extract or lemon juice in the filling for added flavor.
