- ¼ cup cubed butter
- ⅛ teaspoon salt (for streusel)
- ½ cup powdered sugar (for drizzle)
- 2½ teaspoons milk (for drizzle)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Grease a 9-by-9-inch baking dish and optionally line it with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine all dry ingredients: 2 cups of flour, 1 tsp baking powder, ½ tsp baking soda, and ½ tsp salt.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together melted butter, egg, and buttermilk until smooth.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Spread half of the batter into the prepared baking dish.
- For the streusel filling, mix softened butter, cinnamon, additional flour, and brown sugars in a bowl until crumbly; sprinkle half over the batter.
- Pour the remaining batter over the streusel layer and sprinkle the rest of the crumb topping.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let it cool before whisking together powdered sugar and milk for the drizzle, then drizzle over the cooled cake.
Notes
For a lighter cake, sift the flour and baking powder together. Customize it by adding nuts or chocolate chips.
