Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour, 1 cup (240 ml) (125 grams)
  • Eggs, 2 large
  • Breadcrumbs, 1 cup (240 ml) (100 grams)
  • Salt, 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) (2.5 grams)
  • Black pepper, 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) (2.5 grams)
  • Garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) (2.5 grams)
  • Onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) (2.5 grams)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Maple syrup, 1/2 cup (120 ml) (120 milliliters)
  • Brown sugar, 1/4 cup (60 ml) (50 grams)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cut the mozzarella cheese into 12 equal sticks.
  3. Slice the jalapeño peppers in half lengthwise and remove the seeds.
  4. Fill each jalapeño half with a small amount of cream cheese.
  5. Place a mozzarella stick on top of the cream cheese in each jalapeño half.
  6. Wrap each stuffed jalapeño half with a slice of turkey bacon.
  7. Secure the bacon with a toothpick, if necessary.
  8. In a bowl, combine flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  9. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs.
  10. Place breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
  11. Dredge each bacon-wrapped jalapeño in flour mixture, shaking off excess.
  12. Dip the floured jalapeño into the beaten eggs.
  13. Roll the egg-coated jalapeño in breadcrumbs until fully covered.
  14. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  15. Fry the poppers until the bacon is crispy and golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  16. Remove poppers from oil and drain on paper towels.
  17. In a small saucepan, combine maple syrup and brown sugar.
  18. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
  19. Simmer the glaze for 5 minutes, then remove from heat.
  20. Drizzle the sweet maple glaze over the poppers.
  21. Serve immediately while warm.
