Description

Irresistible chocolate and caramel bars that capture the essence of comfort food, perfect for family gatherings and sweet indulgence.


Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 5 ounces evaporated milk
  • 1 bag (14 oz) caramels
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13 inch pan.
  2. In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat butter, sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla until creamy.
  4. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  5. Gradually mix in the flour mixture until just combined.
  6. Stir in chocolate chips.
  7. Spread half of the cookie dough into the prepared pan.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes. Remove from oven.
  9. While the cookie dough is baking, melt caramels and evaporated milk in a double boiler, stirring until smooth.
  10. Add peanut butter after caramels are melted and continue to stir until thoroughly melted and combined.
  11. Spread the caramel sauce evenly over the baked cookie dough base.
  12. With the remaining cookie dough, drop spoonfuls on top of the caramel mixture, gently spreading to cover as much as possible.
  13. Bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until light golden brown.
  14. Let cool completely before cutting into bars and serving.

Notes

Optional: Add a touch of sea salt on top for extra flavor. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream for a delightful dessert.
