Description

Delicious mahi mahi tacos that transform ordinary days into a festive occasion with fresh fish, robust toppings, and vibrant flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 mahi mahi filets (about 6 ounces each)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • The juice of 1 lemon
  • 68 corn tortillas
  • Shredded cabbage slaw
  • Sliced red onion
  • Chopped cilantro
  • ½ cup mayo
  • 2 tablespoons hot sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • Mango salsa (optional)

Instructions

  1. Start by seasoning both sides of each mahi mahi filet liberally with the prepared spice blend.
  2. Heat a cast iron pan over medium-high heat, adding butter and olive oil.
  3. Once hot, add the seasoned mahi mahi, ensuring that filets fit in a single layer.
  4. Cook for several minutes, avoiding the urge to touch or move the fish.
  5. When the underside turns golden brown, use a fish spatula to flip and continue cooking until opaque and completely cooked through—about 3-4 more minutes.
  6. Finish the cooking process by squeezing fresh lemon juice over the filets.
  7. Mix mayo, hot sauce, honey, salt, and pepper in a small bowl to create the zesty sauce.
  8. Add a squeeze of lime for added brightness.
  9. Use small corn tortillas to assemble your mahi mahi tacos.
  10. Start by layering freshly cooked fish, shredded cabbage, sliced red onion, and cilantro on each tortilla.
  11. Drizzle the spicy sauce over the toppings, adding any desired mango salsa for extra flair.

Notes

For best results, do not overcrowd the pan when cooking the fish.
