Description

A classic comfort food featuring thick-cut beef steaks smothered in rich onion gravy, perfect for family gatherings or cozy weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

  • Thick-cut beef steaks
  • Onions, thinly sliced
  • Butter or oil
  • All-purpose flour
  • Beef broth
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Fresh thyme leaves
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Instructions

  1. Season the steaks with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add oil.
  3. Sear the steaks until golden brown and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté the onions until deep golden brown.
  5. Sprinkle in flour to create a roux, then gradually stir in beef broth.
  6. Add Worcestershire sauce and thyme; allow to simmer and thicken.
  7. Return steaks to the skillet, smother in gravy, and simmer for a few minutes to combine flavors.
  8. Serve with mashed potatoes or rice.

Notes

Let the steaks come to room temperature before cooking for even searing, and don’t rush the onion caramelization.
