Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (240 ml) rolled oats
- 1/3 cup (80 ml) brown sugar
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) finely chopped crystallized ginger
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) beef fat
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) white sugar
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons (10 ml) finely chopped crystallized ginger
- 8 cups (1920 ml) peeled and sliced pears
- 1 pint vanilla ice cream
Instructions
- Collect all necessary components. Heat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly coat a 2-quart baking dish or a 9-inch square pan with grease.
- In a medium bowl, combine oats, brown sugar, a half cup of flour, one teaspoon of crystallized ginger, and cinnamon; incorporate beef fat until the blend is crumbly and resembles small peas. Set this mixture aside.
- In another bowl, mix white sugar, two tablespoons of flour, and two teaspoons of crystallized ginger. Add the sliced pears and gently mix to coat them evenly.
- Place the pear mixture into the greased baking dish; distribute the crumb topping evenly over it.
- Bake in the heated oven until the pears are tender and the topping is golden and crisp, approximately 30 to 35 minutes.
- Let it cool a bit before serving it with vanilla ice cream.
Notes
- Consider using butter or coconut oil instead of beef fat for a different flavor profile.
- Ensure the pears are peeled and sliced evenly for consistent cooking and balanced texture.
- Try pairing the warm pear crisp with caramel or cinnamon ice cream for a delicious combination.
