- 1 large head of cabbage
- 1 pound ground meat (beef or turkey)
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup mushrooms, chopped
- 2 cups mushroom sauce or cream of mushroom soup
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the cabbage leaves and blanch them in boiling water for 2-3 minutes until softened.
- In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Sauté the onion and garlic until translucent. Add the chopped mushrooms and cook until tender.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, cooked rice, sautéed mushrooms, and season with salt and pepper.
- Place a spoonful of the meat mixture onto each cabbage leaf, fold in the sides, and roll up tightly.
- In a baking dish, pour a layer of mushroom sauce on the bottom, then arrange the cabbage rolls seam-side down. Pour the remaining sauce over the top.
- Cover with foil and bake for about 45 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh parsley before serving. Enjoy your comforting Polish gołąbki!
Notes
For added flavor, experiment with different meats or spices like paprika or thyme. Best served with crusty bread or a light salad.
