Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 tsp (7 ml) vegetable oil
  • 1 lb (454 g) ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cups (480 ml) water
  • 1 (28 oz (794 g)) can canned crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (16 oz (454 g)) can canned kidney beans – drained, rinsed, and mashed
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp (30 ml) chili powder
  • 5 tsp (2.5 ml) paprika
  • 5 tsp (2.5 ml) dried oregano
  • 5 tsp (2.5 ml) ground cayenne pepper
  • 5 tsp (2.5 ml) ground cumin
  • 5 tsp (2.5 ml) salt
  • 5 tsp (2.5 ml) ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Collect all the necessary items.
  2. Warm the oil in a large pot on medium heat. Add the ground beef, cooking and stirring until it is browned evenly, about 6 to 8 minutes. Add the onion and cook until it becomes soft.
  3. Pour in the water, then combine the crushed tomatoes, kidney beans, and minced garlic.
  4. Mix in the chili powder, paprika, oregano, cayenne pepper, cumin, salt, and black pepper.
  5. Allow the mixture to come to a boil. Lower the heat to a gentle simmer, cover the pot, and let it cook for 30 minutes.

Notes

  • For a healthier twist, opt for lean ground turkey or beef instead of regular ground beef.
  • Enhance the flavor by adding a touch of Worcestershire sauce or a splash of hot sauce.
  • Achieve a thicker texture by incorporating a tablespoon of tomato paste or cooking uncovered in the final 10 minutes.
