Scale
- 5 tsp (7 ml) vegetable oil
- 1 lb (454 g) ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cups (480 ml) water
- 1 (28 oz (794 g)) can canned crushed tomatoes
- 1 (16 oz (454 g)) can canned kidney beans – drained, rinsed, and mashed
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) chili powder
- 5 tsp (2.5 ml) paprika
- 5 tsp (2.5 ml) dried oregano
- 5 tsp (2.5 ml) ground cayenne pepper
- 5 tsp (2.5 ml) ground cumin
- 5 tsp (2.5 ml) salt
- 5 tsp (2.5 ml) ground black pepper
Instructions
- Collect all the necessary items.
- Warm the oil in a large pot on medium heat. Add the ground beef, cooking and stirring until it is browned evenly, about 6 to 8 minutes. Add the onion and cook until it becomes soft.
- Pour in the water, then combine the crushed tomatoes, kidney beans, and minced garlic.
- Mix in the chili powder, paprika, oregano, cayenne pepper, cumin, salt, and black pepper.
- Allow the mixture to come to a boil. Lower the heat to a gentle simmer, cover the pot, and let it cook for 30 minutes.
Notes
- For a healthier twist, opt for lean ground turkey or beef instead of regular ground beef.
- Enhance the flavor by adding a touch of Worcestershire sauce or a splash of hot sauce.
- Achieve a thicker texture by incorporating a tablespoon of tomato paste or cooking uncovered in the final 10 minutes.
